Gain Powerful Game Recording Powers with the Live Aware SDK for Unreal Engine and Unity
Travis Brown
Director of Developer Relations
As a game developer, getting timely feedback is critical for iterating quickly and shipping a polished experience. Live Aware’s Desktop Recorder makes capturing experiences from any device a snap, but we have been busy working on an even more powerful way to automate capture so your team and players never have to worry about missing a great moment.
Today, we are introducing the Live Aware SDK for Unreal Engine and Unity to empower seamless integrations with the Live Aware Desktop Recorder. With Live Aware’s streaming SDK, the process of capturing gameplay footage and insights can now be fully automated allowing developers to focus on building the best experiences.
With just a few lines of code, you'll be able to programmatically create high-quality recordings and live streams straight from your game client. Initiate gameplay video capture from within your game’s UI or trigger recordings automatically based on specific in-game events or detected errors.
Additionally, the Live Aware SDK can enable the buffered recording mode. This lets you continuously record video to a buffer, allowing you to grab clips using hotkeys after the fact for those "Did you see that?!" moments. It's perfect for documenting hard-to-reproduce bugs or unexpected issues during playtesting and development.
In this initial Alpha release, the Live Aware SDK can:
Initiate local recordings and live streams from the game engine
Start buffered recordings to create Slices at any time
Select which Event to stream or upload footage to
In future releases, the Live Aware SDK will be able to capture player inputs, device diagnostics, telemetry, and custom game events. This data will be embedded in the Live Aware video player, giving your team valuable context. Collected data will also be organized on the Insights Dashboard, giving teams even more valuable insights.
The Live Aware SDK for Unreal Engine and Unity represents a big step forward for more tightly integrating recording and streaming capabilities into your game development process. See issues earlier, document bugs more clearly, and make build release videos more easily.
To kick things off, we are inviting a handful of early access partners to get a sneak peak at the Live Aware SDK! We're excited to get these SDKs into your hands. With your feedback we’ll be able to continue to make them even more powerful.
